Would you like to become an apprentice at Zinfra?

 Ryan Rule, Electrician Apprentice, started in 2012.

  1. How long have you been with Zinfra as an apprentice?
    4 years.


  2. What was the best thing about being an apprentice with Zinfra?
    The broad range of experience of the tradesmen you work with.


  3. What are the three things you enjoy the most about working with Zinfra?
    1. The people I work with
    2. The working conditions
    3. Plenty of personal development and training on offer


  4. Who was your supervisor and can you sum him/her up in one sentence?
    Stephen Frost: he's approachable and genuine.


  5. Supervisor comment on apprentice:
    "After completing his apprenticeship, Ryan has excelled in his work with support from his colleagues and Construction Managers. Ryan is a valued member of our substations team and is sought after when he is available."

  6. Where are you now since finishing your apprenticeship (if applicable)?
    I’m still working for Zinfra in the Latrobe Valley.


  7. What advice can you give to those considering an apprentice program with Zinfra?

Jack McCann, Electrician Apprentice, started in 2013.

  1. How long have you been with Zinfra as an apprentice?
    3 years and 9 months.


  2. What was the best thing about being an apprentice with Zinfra?
    The opportunity to work and learn from tradesmen with tons of experience. Some of the guys I have worked with have been in the industry longer than I have been alive.


  3. What are the three things you enjoy the most about working with Zinfra?
    1. The crew of people I work with and the wealth of knowledge they provide me.


    2. Being given the opportunity to work in all different environments across the state.

    3. The wide variety of tasks I get to undertake. From small indoor wiring jobs to massive outdoor primary jobs using things like EWPs and cranes. I’m not stuck doing the exact same thing every single day.

  4. Who was your supervisor and can you sum him/her up in one sentence?
    I had two supervisors during my apprenticeship: Mat Yob and Stephen Frost. They have both been awesome supervisors. They are always more than happy to help me out with any issues and questions I have, and always let me know when I am doing a good job.


  5. Supervisor comment on apprentice:
    "Throughout Jack’s apprenticeship he has constantly worked above his year level. He is a valuable and reliable member of our substations' work force."

  6. What advice can you give to those considering an apprentice program with Zinfra?
    I would tell them to definitely give it a go.  At Zinfra you a get a great amount of experience from all different areas of the trade and you will enjoy every single day of it.

  1. How long have you been with Zinfra as an apprentice?
    2 years and 9 months.

  2. What are the three things you enjoy the most about working with Zinfra?
    1. The variety of work I undertake
    2. The working conditions
    3. Working with a team that challenges and encourages me to further develop my skills

  3. Who was your supervisor and can you sum him/her up in one sentence?
    Matthew Keating. He is easy-going and approachable.


  4. What are your future goals?
    To complete my apprenticeship and hopefully begin a long and successful career as a cable jointer.

  5. What advice can you give to those considering an apprentice program with Zinfra?
    Learn as much as you can with the opportunity you've been given and work hard.
